Creative Education Strategy

The Creative Education Strategy is intended to set out the nine core principles which shape learning and teaching at UCA. The purpose of the strategy is to enable the alignment of School and departmental strategies, course documentation, and all learning and teaching activity with these core principles.

Creative Education Strategy

This Learning, Teaching & Assessment strategy has been developed to be used in conjunction with the Academic Quality & Standards Handbook and Common Credit Framework in the development and continuous enhancement of all courses. Where appropriate, further guidance and policies are referenced. It has been designed to express the shared characteristics and commitments that all UCA courses demonstrate in diverse and various ways, and to embody the excellence of our teaching.

1) Creative Practice is at the heart of learning, teaching & assessment at UCA. It is what defines us as a specialist institution. See also:

2) Curriculum is designed to be holistic and inclusive, challenging and developmental. It is appropriately staged and defined by specific learning outcomes that demonstrate student achievement.

3) Assessment is designed to support student learning and achievement. It is an ongoing ‘culture’ that is supported by ‘formative’ and ‘summative’ feedback, and is made meaningful by projects that have purpose and relevance in the world. See also:

4) Courses use a wide variety of technologies and facilities to develop, enhance and organize learning, teaching & assessment. This is enshrined in the technical, technological and library environment and via an ethos of collaboration between disciplines. See also:

5) Courses are designed to be student-centred and to benefit from the continuous enhancement that student engagement brings. Courses recognize the diversity of students and their needs so are designed to be inclusive in their support for learning. See also:

6) Research and experimentation is embedded throughout all courses. The curriculum is ‘research-informed’, and research skills are taught to students to enable and inform self-directed creative practice. See also:

7) Employability, Enterprise and Professional Practice skills are taught in all courses, and this makes them, and their students current and relevant to their specific industry sectors. Through live projects, competitions, industrial placements, field trips & visits, participation in exhibitions and events, and engagement with professionals and alumni, professional development planning is made fundamental to student learning. 8) UCA works within a culture of internationalization and is committed to addressing the global issues and challenges of Sustainable Development within its courses. See also:

9) Courses are designed to provide graduates with the attributes and skills to innovate and create opportunity; to work within and beyond the areas of their specialism; and to bring the values of their creative practice to bear on the world in diverse and unexpected ways.
